Tearaway’s In-Game Photography Detailed

What’s a journey without mementos? That’s exactly the question Media Molecule asked themselves while developing Tearaway.

Their new title follows you and your messenger friend iota as you both journey through a world made of paper. Thanks to the inclusion of a camera, you can take snaps of your best adventure moments in the vibrant world and capture mementos for old times sake.

Posting on the PlayStation Blog today, Community Manager James Spafford explained just how the camera would work.

First of all players will face no hassle in obtaining the camera, as it would be awarded early on in the game. Secondly the camera has the ability to be upgraded with various accessories that can be unlocked through the game’s progress.

By default the camera comes “with kit lens, with a nice depth of field”. However, you can also unlock new lenses and special filters using the game’s currency of confetti. These “colorful bits of paper” will be present throughout the world. Collect and spend them on numerous things including camera items.

In total there are five different lenses to collect.

“There’s the Macro lens for close-ups, a zoom lens for capturing distant scenes, a high speed lens for fast moving objects, a wide angle for capturing more of the scene, and finally, the Quantum Lens, for capturing photos of the real world using the PS Vita’s front and rear cameras.”

Filters on the other hand will be available in various types, including ones which turn your snaps into negatives or black and white. There are 15 in total and all come with their own special effects.

Snaps that you’ve taken can be shared with your friends through Facebook and Twitter. You can also upload it on Tearaway’s community website.

Tearaway is an adventure game being developed for the PlayStation Vita and will release on November 22, 2013.
