EA has revealed its intention of creating only the most jaw dropping games in its newly acquired Star Wars franchise.
“The most important thing for me is that we take the Star Wars license and come up with games where people’s jaws drop,” EA Games vice president Patrick Soderlund told Polygon. “We need to do with this what [Batman: Arkham Asylum] did for the Batman license.”
Star Wars: Battlefront is going to be the first game in the series and was just recently teased with a short clip of a few seconds at E3 2013 this past June. From the looks of it, Battlefront is still very early in its development at DICE and it’s going to take some time before EA shows us that they have kept their promise of a jaw dropping experience.
When asked about details for the game, Soderlund said, “It’s going to take a while.” He then added that DICE is currently going over past Star Wars games to get an idea of what fans would love to see and what aspects they can improve on.
“We didn’t toss anything out,” Soderlund said. “We’re looking at the old games. We have access to everything that was done during the LucasArts era. But we do want to take our own stance.”
Earlier this year EA entered in an exclusive deal with Disney to create all future Star Wars titles. Dead Space studio Visceral Games is also working on an all-new Stars Wars title, though no details are available about this project.
The new Star Wars: Battlefront game is expected to launch in summer 2015 alongside Disney’s upcoming Star Wars films.
