A developer diary released for inFamous: Second Son has developer Sucker Punch explaining how they used the new DualShock 4 controller in some “really cool ways to bring players even deeper into Second Son.”
Sucker Punch also praised the DualShock 4′s tighter dead zones in terms of precision control and how the touchpad and the built-in speaker allow them to develop interesting, immersive moments in the game for players.
The touchpad specifically might surprise players. In one instance the game asks you to put your finger on a scanner to be scanned. You’ll be placing your own finger on the touchpad and presto, the controller will start beeping. Similarly the touchpad can also be used to perform stealth take-downs.
“If the controls are right, you don’t think about the controls,” game designer Darren Bridges says in the video. “And ultimately, I want to be thinking: Aim for the head. Aim for the legs. Use this power, use this dash.”
InFamous: Second Son launches on PlayStation 4 in February 2014.
