As promised, Rockstar revealed Grand Theft Auto Online today which looks to offer an ever evolving world of players to explore and adventure through for days on days.

It will support up to 16 players at a time and give each complete freedom to do whatever they want in the game’s monstrous open-world. The online component will come free with every purchase of Grand Theft Auto V and boast a ton of features.

Once you have created and selected a character, Grand Theft Auto Online will automatically place you in an already-populated world. Here’s a statement by Rockstar which explains some of the features in the mode:

Players can invest in their character through customizing their appearance, improving their stats, owning customized vehicles, purchasing personal property, and taking part in missions, jobs and activities to earn reputation and cash to open up new opportunities to rise through the criminal ranks. The world of Grand Theft Auto Online will constantly grow and change as new content is added, creating the first ever persistent and dynamic Grand Theft Auto game world.

Unfortunately the online component will not be available when the game launches later next month. Instead it will be made available as a free download on October 1.

Grand Theft Auto V will launch on September 17 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. A PC version was said to be under consideration but so far has not been hinted by Rockstar.
