At Siggraph 2013 this past week, CD Projekt RED held a panel to talk about the technology they’re using on their new games, calling the panel “Advances in Real-Time Rendering Course”, where they revealed a couple of tidbits about their two biggest projects yet.
During the presentation, one of the slides revealed some of the features of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 when they were showing off what the company was currently working on. The few bullet points listing features for The Witcher 3 were nothing that we weren’t already aware of, but they did reveal that Cyberpunk 2077 would somehow use a mix of both third person and first person points of view.
It says mixed, but doesn’t verify what that means in concern to player control. Whether you can seamlessly switch between the two, ala recent Fallout/Elder Scrolls games, or if the game will primarily be first person with the camera switching to third person when appropriate, ala Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Considering the example CD Projekt RED have set for themselves with their previous games, it might be something new altogether that we haven’t seen before.
