Square Enix announced through the official Final Fantasy 14 site the open beta test of FF14, running from August 17 through August 19. The open beta will be available for PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.
The open beta will allow players the freedom to trek the Massively Multiplayer Online RPG as it undergoes its final testing phase. The finished game will release on August 27. Early adopters can find pre-orders through the official FF14 website here. Bonuses are awarded for subscription periods of 30, 60 or 90 days.
The PS3 version of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will cost $39.99, while it is just $29.99 on the PC. Keep in mind there is also a $12.99 monthly subscription fee. (That’s about the approximate price of my Netflix and New Yorker monthly subscriptions combined, so I hope FF14 can provide more satisfying entertainment than reading Gary Shteyngart while simultaneously watching reruns of How I Met Your Mother does.) Ahem, players signing up for the first time, however, receive a 30-day trial.
If you’re already done with the current generation, you’ll have to wait until 2014 to play A Realm Reborn on your PlayStation 4.
