My goodness, just look at the time. The latest Black Ops 2 DLC has been out for a month now, and it’s about time that Treyarch started hinting at what’s to come next. I’ve heard some rumours that the Zombies DLC is quite popular, what with it having appeared as a major addition to each of the DLC packs so far.
What’s next for Zombies, then? If you’re as addicted to this gamemode as my younger brother is, then you probably want to know more about the Zombies themselves. Where did they come from? What is their longterm objective? What is the actual deal with the different coloured glowing eyes?
Well, thanks to a series of teaser images from Treyarch, we’re beginning to get some idea of what the next Zombies DLC is going to be like. Four images released on the Treyarch Facebook page were our first clue, and those images were all handwritten letters that harken back to the Zombies cast from the first game that the gamemode appeared in: Call of Duty: World at War.
The studio then went on to publish a set of blueprints that look like they build the Mauser (Prototype CXS), which is the new weapon coming in the next Zombies DLC. This suggests that whatever Treyarch is teasing is definitely Zombies related.
Time for the clincher that ties it all together. Today we were treated to a Vine video from Treyarch that flashes a number of short clips from previous Zombies maps such as Ascension and Shangri La. It ends rather ominously with the words “Every story has a beginning…”
Look, I’m not saying it was aliens…but it was aliens. Treyarch are hinting quite heavily at some new Zombies content, and I can only think of two things that they could be hinting at. They could be doing up some old maps, but that doesn’t explain the letters from the original Zombies crew. If they’re really going back to the beginning, then that suggests an origin story set before World at War to me.
