Not to be confused with Street Fighter x Tekken, which was developed by Capcom and released back in March of 2012, Tekken x Street Fighter is another crossover game, and is being developed by Namco Bandai. Key phrase being ‘is being developed’.
The game was announced over three years ago, and since then we’ve had five Tekken games but no word on Tekken x Street Fighter. Until now.
Katsuhiro Harada recently spoke to Siliconera and assured fans that “the game is still in development, so you don’t need to worry about that”. He said that there were several reasons for the lack of news about the game, the biggest one being the release of Street Fighter x Tekken.
“There seems to be a whole new community growing around that title that wasn’t playing either of the titles up until that point. That was very unexpected, but quite cool. It’s something we want to take care and grow. Rather than throw out our title right away while those people are still interested in [Street Fighter X Tekken] we are looking for the right time because we are still developing [Tekken X Street Fighter].”
Harada has said before that Tekken x Street Fighter will be utilizing Tekken’s classic limb-based fighting engine, in which each of the four buttons on the controller corresponds to a different limb.
This is in comparison to the light/fierce/strong attack system in the Street Fighter games (which was used in Street Fighter x Tekken). He also said that Ryu’s gameplay would be more close combat, but he would still retain his classic Hadoukens.
