I have to say, being stranded in a frozen tundra and suffering an icy death must be one of the most horrible ways to go. I hadn’t really considered how bad it must be until this Lost Planet 3 trailer released by Capcom came out.
Nothing really too graphic involved with the trailer, so the more squeamish amongst you have little to fear by watching the video in the header above. It basically just involves a 3D model of the human body and an ominous narrator describing what exactly occurs to the human body as its temperature drops lower and lower.
It all begins with blood being pulled back from the extremities of the body such as the fingers and toes to try and protect the vital inner organs, after that… well you can just see for yourself.
For those curious about how their survival skills in extreme conditions measure up, Capcom has released a tie-in minigame testing one’s ability to survive. The trailer also details some pre order bonuses in the form of the Freedom Fighter pack, which includes five exclusive multiplayer character models and two rig upgrades.
Lost Planet 3 is a prequel to the second and first games in the series, long before NEVEC became a force of evil. The game follows the story of Jim Peyton, a colonist who is working for NEVEC and helping mine the planet and sending minerals back to Earth, where his family awaits him.
The game, however, doesn’t feature militarized VS bipedal mechs like previous entries in the series, and instead features mechs called Rigs that are the predecessors of VS mechs, given the timeline of the game.
Unlike VS mechs, Rigs aren’t militarized with weapons and instead are equipped with drill arms and claw arms for mining.
Lost Planet 3 hits Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC at the end of August.
