Crackdown and Dead Rising for August’s Games with Gold

By   /   Aug 1, 2013

Great news for those of you who have Xbox Live Gold membership. As part of Microsoft’s Games with Gold program, all of you have the option to download and keep Crackdown from August 1st to August 15th. This does not mean that the game goes away then, it’s yours for the keeping once you initiate the download.

If you haven’t played Crackdown yet, you really should, as it’s a great game. You don’t even have to download all of it right now, just initiate the download, then pause or stop it and continue it later on down the line.

On August 16, both Dead Rising 2 and its downloadable prequel episode, Case Zero, will be free for Gold members. Case Zero only lasts a few hours, but it’s a great little story setup and introduction to the main game’s excellent crafting system, impressive open world, and absurd sense of humor.

Once again, the start now-download later option applies, and you’d have to be nuts if you’ve never played Dead Rising, have Xbox Gold and ignore this offer.

Germany will be getting a different set of games though. From August 1st to August 15th they get Shadowrun (the original) and from then on it’ll be Lost Planet 2 until the end of the month.

Crackdown is basically what would happen if you gave a bunch of crazy nutters police uniforms, put Spartan armor with jetpacks on top of those uniforms, and told them to go wild on the city. Essentially GTA with power armor.

Dead Rising just features an absolutely absurd number of ways to kill massive hordes of zombies. Both games are great, and should offer plenty of entertainment for all those violent virtual maniacs and hardened zombie slayers out there.
