Oculus and IndieCade Announce VR Jam Competition


So, will this finally be the VR experience we’ve been dreaming of since the seventies? Or will it be another Virtual Boy-esque flop? You might actually be the deciding factor.

The company that has designed the Oculus Rift is joining hands with IndieCade in order to host ‘VR Jam’. According to Oculus, now that they’ve managed to ship over tens of thousands of development kits for the Rift worldwide, they want to get the community to start pumping out awesome content.

VR Jam is intended to be a long format, worldwide game jam with over $50,000 in prizes.

The winning team will receive:

  • $10,000 cash prize.
  • Oculus will pay for travel and lodging for 1 member of the winning team to attend IndieCade and exhibit at event (up to $2,000).
  • An invitation to visit Oculus HQ to meet the Oculus team.
  • Oculus will promote the content through social channels.
  • Opportunity to exhibit winning content at IndieCade 2013.
  • Coupon for submission to IndieCade 2014.
  • A limited edition Oculus + IndieCade VR Jam 2013 t-shirt.

Second place gets the following:

  • $5,000 cash prize.
  • Oculus will promote the content through social channels.
  • Opportunity to exhibit winning content at IndieCade 2013.
  • Coupon for submission to IndieCade 2014.
  • A limited edition Oculus + IndieCade VR Jam 2013 t-shirt.

Third place will receive:

  • $3,000 cash prize.
  • Oculus will promote the content through social channels.
  • Opportunity to exhibit winning content at IndieCade 2013.
  • Coupon for submission to IndieCade 2014.
  • A limited edition Oculus + IndieCade VR Jam 2013 t-shirt.

Also, each finalist gets the following:

  • $500 cash prize.
