X-Men: Battle of the Atom is a new card game announced by Marvel Comics for iOS and Android devices, which is being worked on by developer GREE.
Together they will be bringing “a time-traveling narrative tie-in” with the the upcoming comic of the same in; making the story of the game directly affecting the story of the comic and vice versa. A pretty confusing and seemingly hard thing to do.
“It’s fairly comprehensive, but to provide the appropriate context we’re going to start with some of the big stories that precede Battle of the Atom, that help us frame the conflict and give context on why there are X-Men on both sides of the fence,” Marvel Vice President of Games Production Jefferson told USA Today. “The idea of being able to span the entire history of the X-Men — and beyond — was tremendously appealing to us.”
“The idea of being able to span the entire history of the X-Men — and beyond — was tremendously appealing to us.”
The story itself will span over 50 years of the X-Men saga; allowing players to team up with mutants of the future and past.
X-Men from the future travel back in time to the present era to force the original X-Men, who have also traveled in time from their past to the present, to go back home.
“Expect to see every one of your favorites in the game,” Jefferson said, “along with characters that will have you rushing to your Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe to identify.”
A release date nor gameplay details were revealed. However, Marvel did released a short trailer which you can view above.
