EVO Championship Series Shatters all Previous Viewership Records

Matthew DiPietro – Twitch TV marketing executive – said that around 1.7 million people watched the EVO Championship series at tournament’s live stream channels.

For those of you who does not know, EVO Championship series is a fighting games tournament that takes place yearly at Las Vegas and brings players from across the globe at a single platform. The games this year were Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, Persona 4: Arena, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and many others.

The most watched match of the tournament was Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with a record shattering 144,848 viewers at the same time. Super Smash Bros. & Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition pulled off howling figures of 134,000 & 125,000 respectively.

Although Persona 4: Arena & Injustice: Gods among Us were also included but the viewers for these games were not nailed down.

In an interview with Polygon, DiPietro said that the number of viewers is 50% more than the last year.

Another highlight of this tournament was the announcement trailer of Ultra Street Fighter 4 which will feature five new characters, 6 new stages and various game modes. You can read more about it, here.
