Dota needs no introduction. Valve wanted to make sure that the sequel to the original Dota is a polished product so the developer did not rush up its release. However, after a two-year beta run, Dota 2 has finally been released to masses.
The game of course is developed by Valve and is an PC exclusive. Although the client is working fine for the majority, there can be some minor issues that can spoil the fun for you not allowing you to play or even start the game properly.
If you are experiencing any sort of errors/crashes/bugs, you can refer to the following troubleshooting guide:
#1 Dota 2 Crashes or Fails To Launch
If your game is being crashed continuously or it won’t even start, you should add “-autoconfig” or “-safe” commands in the launch options. Remember that only one command can be used at a time. In order to add these commands, follow these steps:
- Open Steam
- Go to the “Library”
- Right-click the game which needs to be reconfigured
- Select “Properties” from the menu
- Click the “Set launch options…” button
- Remove any launch options currently shown.
- Type -autoconfig or -safe in the box and select OK.
- Launch the game and test the issue again.
#2 Dota 2 “No Steam Logon Error” Fix
You can try out the following workarounds to resolve the issue:
- First, go to dota 2, options, game, network and set network quality to low.
- Or you can create a shortcut on desktop and start the game using “-tcp” command in the target of shortcut.
- Don’t forget to verify your game cache.
#4 Dota 2 – Not Responding Error
If your game is being crashed with “not responding” error, you need to make sure that there isn’t any third party program that might be conflicting with the game. You can also try running the game as admin. Make sure that your are using the latest drivers for your hardware and if nothing helps, a fresh clean install may help to fix the problem. Sometimes, changing the compatibility mode also helps to make the error go away.
#5 Dota 2 – Can’t Connect to Games
Connection issues usually aren’t persistent and go away with time. So if you are encountering such an issue and you have access to your modem/router, you should restart it and try again. If this issue persists, there is something wrong with the servers (overloaded) or sure ISP is screwing you up. And yes, make sure that your firewall or any other security tool isn’t blocking the game.
#6 Dota 2 Crashes During Loading or Queue
Before starting another game, you should try changing your aspect ratio from 4:3 to something else.
#7 Dota 2 – The Game Doesn’t Work After the Update
There are many complaints that after the latest update (the one with Abaddon), the game has stopped working. First thing you should do is verify the integrity of game files. If that doesn’t work, try restarting Steam and your PC. Still no luck? As a final resort, you should run the game using this tool.
#8 Dota 2 Error – Game Failed to Launch
It can be due to multiple reasons. Common reason is that either your directx or gpu driver is creating problem. If that’s not the case, i will recommend a fresh install to make the crash go away. You can also try out the solution mentioned in #9 to resolve the problem.
#9 Dota 2 Crashes after Pressing ‘Start Game’
To fix the issue, you need to enter -nod3d9ex command in the launch options of Steam and then start the game.
