Yuni Tanimura, the director behind Dark Souls 2, has revealed that they have plans for more open-world style content in their upcoming title.
Taking heed from the open-world areas that were laid out in Dark Souls, the team behind Dark Souls 2 are really hoping to bring more innovation to the series with this kind of content.
The general idea is to give the player a larger sense of freedom as they play. From Software want the player to feel free to explore the world, much like ringing the bells of Dark Souls or going to Anor Londo.
The player needs to feel like there’s a world for them to go and see, and they actively need to explore that world in order to see it. The game can’t hold your hand and show you all the sights, you’re going to have to get out there and see them for yourself.
On top of that, they want to use this open-world build for the game to entice the player into completing tasks in whatever order they want.
If all goes to plan, you won’t have to do absolutely every single part of the game in the order that you might imagine. This not only adds another layer of freedom, but helps you to impose a bit more personality onto your in-game character.
We’re hoping that if the player tries hard enough, or are willing enough, they could even start halfway through the game, depending on how willing or how brave they are.
So, do you think you’re up for the challenge?
