The third instalment in the DLC plan for Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II has been formally announced today in the form of Vengeance.
Like the previous two DLC packs for Black Ops II, this new pack contains four new maps for multiplayer, and a brand new map for the Zombies game mode that Black Ops is famous for.
Not only that, but there’s a brand new weapon being thrown into the mix for Zombies. If you’re a fan of the horde-style survival game mode, then you’ll be sure to love the brand new Ray Gun MkII that is included with Vengeance.
Let’s take a look at the four maps that are coming your way with this new content:
First up is Cove. This map is a deserted island covered in rocky outcrops and lush vegetation, meaning that there’s no straightforward paths. The island itself is pretty small, so you’ll be surrounded by the ocean as well as other players. The design of this map will allow you to flank your enemies without them ever knowing where you are.
Secondly we’ve got Detour. In contrast to Cove, this map is very straightforward. You’ll be playing on a suspension bridge that’s been recently abandoned, with spawn points at each end. There’s a lot of cover in the form of abandoned vehicles, but otherwise it’s a straight run at the opposing team.
Third is Uplink. This mountaintop satellite facility should inspire some memories of playing Goldeneye 007 on N64, or if you’re not as nostalgic as me; Summit from Black Ops, which this map is a re-imagining of.
The map itself is filled with choke points and bottlenecks, meaning that you can lure your opponents into traps with just a little bit of teamwork. Conversely you can set up to defend various rooms or bottlenecks, forcing your opponents to take alternative routes.
Finally there’s Rush, which is set in a paintball arena. If you’ve ever been paintballing, then you’ll recognise a few things in this map. Various different paintballing environments have been recreated for this map, and all of them tie together quite well. It’s all about the fast paced action and ever-changing cover as you sprint from room to room.
If those weren’t enough to satisfy you, then remember there’s also Buried, the new Zombies map!
Buried is set underground in a vintage town and features an all new story. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding this map, still, as Treyarch don’t want to spoil too much right now.
