Next Star Wars: Battlefront Confirmed – Developed by DICE

In a shock announcement during EA’s E3 2013 conference, we learned today that the new Star Wars title currently in development by DICE is actually a continuation of the Star Wars: Battlefront series.

Fans have long been waiting for a sequel to Battlefront 2, and various different attempts have been made, albeit they failed.

The teaser that they showed first mentioned the Frostbite 3 engine, and then showed a snowy landscape which was presumably Hoth. A snow speeder soon flies by and the foot of an AT-AT nearly crushes the character.

EA have exclusive rights for the development and publishing of games set in the Star Wars franchise, and we know that they’ve been working on something but prior today nobody had any idea what it was. EA officials have hinted before that they might have been working on a new Battlefront title.

Visceral Games and BioWare are also currently working on new Star Wars games, both of which have been confirmed to be running on DICE’s Frostbite 3 engine. Hopefully the games will have some cross-play, or other integration.
