Developer Wargaming has revealed that World of Tanks has just crossed 60 million registered players.
Looking back, the free-to-play title registered 20 million users in early 2012 and within a single year, tripled its user based. That’s a fascinating achievement by Wargaming and proves that the masses do love tank warfare.
“Our key objectives for the year 2013 are many — deliver two new online free-to-play worlds, continued the expansion of World of Tanks with creative and passionate new content, and further reinforce our ties with our community,” said Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi in December.
The online multiplayer tank shooter is growing at an amazing rate, specifically in countries like Russia and China, where the free-to-play market is seeing a boom.
To celebrate this milestone Wargaming released a new CGI trailer for the game, as well as confirming the game’s presence at E3 next week.
World of Tanks holds a Guinness World Record in the category of Most Players Online Simultaneously on one MMO Server. The record was registered on January 23, 2011 when the number of players on the game’s Russian server totaled 91,311. This record was beaten by the European server on 13 April 2012 during the anniversary special weekend where all players could enter a code to be Premium account holders for a day. Numbers of over 305,000 were recorded during this period.
