As of August 4, we’ll finally be able to get our hands on Pikmin 3 which many fans have been waiting patiently on for years now. In the build-up to the release, Nintendo finally revealed some additional details on the game yesterday at their Nintendo Direct livestream.
As with the previous games, you’ll be returning to the mysterious planet inhabited by the tiny plant creatures known as Pikmin (As well as the hundreds of predators that feed on them). This new adventure will feature a new cast of protagonists from the planet Koppai, a planet that is being ravaged by worldwide starvation. The team is comprised of a young lad naped Alph, a scientist named Brittany and the captain of this motley crew: Charlie.
As with the previous games, you are on the planet to collect various things so that you can bring them back to your home planet. This time you’re after fruit and seeds so that you can try and fix the starvation problem back home, but you’re still tiny compared to the human beings of our planet, so you’ll need help. Fortunately, the numerous Pikmin are willing to help you out, and now there’s more of them than ever!
Pikmin 3 is going to work a bit differently from its predecessors. Since you’ve got three protagonists you can split them up into three teams, each managing their own group of Pikmin or you can keep them all together for one big combined force. Using this splitting up tactic, you can position various Pikmin around the map and switch between different characters to complete complex tasks.
You can use the Wii U GamePad to great ability as well. The screen will provide detailed information about the map and each of your characters, amongst some other details. If you’re not comfortable using the GamePad though, you can use the old Wiimote + Nunchuk combo which Nintendo will be providing support for.
