Payday 2 Hijacking Retail Stores This August

By   /   May 15, 2013

Payday 2, the upcoming sequel to the 2011 hit Payday: the Heist, will be coming to retail soon as opposed to the previously ‘Digital Only’ distribution scheme. The game will now be releasing globally for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on retail.

Previously, the game was only to be released via Xbox Live and the Playstation Network. However, according to game director David Goldfarb, “Payday 2 has become just too big to reserve release on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network alone”. They seemed quite happy to make the announcement; I suppose everyone likes to see their work on the store shelves.

The PC version of Payday 2 will remain a digital-exclusive and will be available through Steam. Some new features to Payday 2 include a skill and progression system, four different professions with their own unique abilities, and four-player co-op.

Payday: The Heist came out in 2011 and was pretty damn popular. The game sold over 700,000 copies, and hopefully the second game can capture the feel of the original. Payday 2 doesn’t have an exact date of release, but is said to launch sometime around August.
