According to IGN, several of their sources have let slip that the next Scribblenauts game will feature DC superheros.
The information regarding the game suggests that it was being made by the developer 5th Cell as Scribblenauts Unmasked, where Max, the series protagonist, travel across levels in his adventure to aid various DC superheros.
While the Scribblenauts franchise relies on “writing words” for various contexts as the primary gameplay mechanic, it is not clear whether those words will create objects and characters licensed to DC comics or how it will be featured in the system.
However, one source close to IGN has shared some details on characters, places and interactions from the game which give some clues to what players can expect from this upcoming iteration of Scribblenaits. The details of of the said scenarios are as follows:
Linear level beginning in the sewers beneath Wayne Manor where a hungry Killer Croc won’t let Max proceed. When a hamburger isn’t enough, a dynamite sandwich sends Croc into a rage leading to his arrest. Robin keeps the situation under control, allowing Max to make his way inside Wayne Manor (where Batman has been manipulated by The Joker) before discovering Batgirl’s capture in the Batcave.
In another situation, Max encounters two police officers, and must decipher which one is legit and which is actually Clayface. An X-ray exposes the villain, and when handcuffs fail to stop the sludge-monster, a freeze-gun does the trick.
Other DC characters who at least once appeared in Scribblenauts Unmasked include Aquaman and Black Manta, both of whom appear in Atlantis, a separate area with new puzzles for the player to solve. Harley Quinn and Mr. Freeze appeared in various puzzles, as well.
However the developer 5th Cell may change both the title and content of Scribblenauts Unmasked, prior to the game’s announcement for PC, WiiU and 3DS, which is expected to happen at this year’s E3 event in June.
