As of the New 52 universe, the superhero known as Captain Marvel has been rebranded simply as Shazam. Shazam is basically the modern-day version of Black Adam, as the new avatar for the powers of the Wizard Council. He is actually a child named Billy Batson, who was given the power to turn into his superhero persona by saying the name of the wizard Shazam.
