Remember Castle of Illusion from the Sega Mega Drive days? The classic title is being remade in HD for the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and PC, publisher Sega announced today.
The game is being developed by the Australian branch of Sega Studios and will be a 2D/3D hybrid affair. Sega has confirmed that the director of the original 1990 game will be working closely with the development team as well.
“We have also been working very closely with the director of the original game, who is now at Disney Interactive,” commented Mai Kawaguchi, Senior Digital Brand Manager for Sega in a press release announcing the release of the game.
“We are having a blast working with her to realize many of the elements that were intended for the original game, but couldn’t be achieved until now due to the technical limitations of previous generation consoles.”
Castle of Illusion HD will release sometime this summer for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Strangely enough there has been no mention of a Wii U release. That might follow later.
