It seems that the highly anticipated console, The Ouya, has gotten some “less than stellar” early reviews. Engadget & The Verge, were both early reviewers of the console and both gave the console a bad rating because of various issues plaguing the console.
The developers of the Ouya have stepped forward to douse these fires and have released a statement that the early samples sent out are not the final product. They are in fact test samples that were meant to be sent to the selected few supporters of the Kickstarter who contributed a certain amount. These “early backer units” are still not the finished work and are of course not the final product, so don’t be too quick to judge this book by its cover.
An official statement from the Ouya developers given to GamesIndusty.biz
We will be making Ouya review units available in early to mid-May so that you are able to review the more complete consumer experience and prepare your coverage in time for the June 4th retail launch, a representative said. To clarify for you–Ouya has sent no review units out to press. Any reviews you have seen online are a result from individuals who received early backer units from supporting our Kickstarter.
As you can see, you should still hold your final decision of the console until the final units arrive. I just hope that the final units do resolve the issue present in the current “test” units.
