Torment: Tides of Numenera, the spiritual successor of the critically acclaimed 1999 RPG, Planescape: Torment, has broken the Kickstarter record for most funded game.
Torment: Tides of Numenera was a project dreamed up by Brian Fargo and inXile Entertainment, the project reached its goal in just six hours and went on to receive a total of $4,188,927 and 74,405 backers, breaking the record of Project Eternity as the highest Kickstarter funded game.
It also broke the record of Ouya by reaching the 1 million mark in seven hours. It did not, however, beat the record of Star Citizen as the highest crowd funded game. Reaching the goal in just six hours, the project has had a lot of further stretch goals met, even bringing Chris Avellone on board.
Chris Avellone is, of course, the original lead designer of Planescape: Torment, and besides that has been involved in some of the biggest RPG titles. The Kickstarter ended yesterday and the team thanked all of the contributors, without whom, “there would be no Torment”.
