High Moon studios, the developers of the recently completed Deadpool game have just underwent significant downsizing as per the instructions of their parent company; Activision.
This is a bit surprising to me. Quality and Assurance teams regularly get downsized after a game is finished (since what are they supposed to test once the product is done?) but laying off forty, full time employees is a bit harsh, especially after they’re riding the high from completing an important game project. It’s not difficult to see how this might affect Activision’s image and morale in general. They had this to say to Kotaku:
Activision Publishing consistently works to align its costs with its revenues – this is an ongoing process. With the completion of development on Deadpool, we are taking a reduction in staff at High Moon Studios to better align our development talent against our slate. Approximately, 40 full-time employees will be impacted globally. We are offering those employees who are impacted outplacement counseling services.
