Not a lot of Indie PC Games make it to a popular enough stage to warrant a console version. So the fact that a Mod of a PC game may get that chance is quite surprising. DayZ has hit just about every checkpoint a game could make for success and DayZ creator Dean Hall thinks a console version is definitely in their future.
“Certainly I think if we don’t, for want of a better word [mess up], the PC release then I would say a console port is almost certain,” Hall told video game site, The Escapist. “I know a lot of people get really hot and bothered about it. Like, I’m not a console gamer, I’m a PC gamer, but I don’t think it necessarily has to hurt things.”
Hall said that no console version is in development at the time, but Sony’s PlayStation 4 seems a likely candidate for the future. “It appears to be the kind of game that Sony are interested in, I think we just have to wait and see,” he said. “We’ve talked and met with Sony, and they’re very – you know, they’re obviously interested.”
There was a standalone version of DayZ planned for a launch in December, but the target release date was missed due to heavy revisions. A new date has not been set.
What do you think about a DayZ console version? Would you be more inclined to play it on Xbox or PS3?
