The next installment in the Battlefield franchise, Battlefield 4 was unveiled at a press event. A 17 minute video showing gameplay footage was also released.
Several details about the game have come forward. As we all had come to know already, the game makes use of the Frostbite 3 engine which is an evolution of its predecessor, enhancing graphical capabilities, physics and AI among much else.
The world is at the brink of War between super powers, China, Russia and US as you take control of a US soldier nicknamed “Recker”. The protagonist is a part of a four-man team gathering intelligence in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The game follows only one character, unlike Battlefield 3, where you could switch between different squad members. The characters are given more focus this time around and include the squad leader, Dunn, an Asian woman by the name of Hanna and an African-American fellow squad member, voiced by Michael K. Williams who plays Omar Little in the HBO TV series The Wire.
There will be a new mechanic for giving commands to squad members, as seen in other war FPS of late. There will also be some amphibious warfare as seen from the teasers. Also, there will be “elements of social persistence” which is still a mystery. With the open-world focus on the single-player, you will have a lot more ways to complete missions.
