Trendy Entertainment has announced the sequel to their popular tower defense role-playing game Dungeon Defenders. Unlike its predecessor, the aptly named, Dungeon Defenders II will feature two distinct styles of play in their cooperative and competitive modes.
The cooperative mode includes return to the familiar setting with tower defense gameplay:
“The cooperative mode is the true sequel to Dungeon Defenders. Expect more heroes, more towers and even more loot. New features like an expanded story and a 24-player overworld are also in the works.”
However on the competitive side, the sequel introduces a new, MOBA styled gameplay mode:”The competitive mode is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena set in the Dungeon Defenders universe. Together, 5 players will take up arms to defend their towers against the opposing team. This fast-paced, streamlined MOBA aims for a shorter learning curve and more rpg-esque take on the genre.”
The cooperative portion of Dungeon Defenders II is slated to get released this year; 2013, while the competitive portion is scheduled for a 2014 release. The competitive mode is in closed-beta stage and players can register for beta invite by clicking here.
The game is currently in development for “PC, Mac, iOS, Android & Web” and Trendy had the following statement for console release:
“Our current focus is to release Dungeon Defenders II on platforms that allow consistent updates and cross-platform play. Because of this, we are not planning to release Dungeon Defenders II on current generation consoles. If the next generation consoles fit this bill, we would love to see Dungeon Defenders II released there as well.”
