Killzone: Mercenary is coming this September, and now is as good a time as any to show you all the neat features of the game. Of course, chief among them is all the “tactical toys” you get to deploy from your “wrist-mounted murder assistant,” also known as the VAN-Guard.
With it, you’ll be able to deploy Mantis drones, that have a predilection for stabbing faces, the guided Porcupine missiles, or even a Sky Fury ion cannon bombardment.
Interestingly enough, this new mechanic is recharge based, not points/kill rewards based. I’m excited to see how such a mechanic works out in multiplayer. If the call-in abilities are balanced in such a way, that a skilled player can deal with it, it could be a great addition that keeps newer players feeling as if they have a chance, while also making it so that it isn’t a guaranteed kill per use.
While stabbing unsuspecting foes in the back, isn’t anything new to the series, in Mercenary you’ll be swiping the screen in a randomly generated, designated direction in order to pull it off. Which is kind of cool.
You can pick up Killzone: Mercenary in North America on September 17th.
