Even though StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, scheduled to be released on March 12th, has not even hit the shelves, developer Blizzard is well into the development of StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void; the next chapter in the StarCraft 2 series.
According to game director Dustin Browder, the company is already in process of developing the script, story and missions for the Legacy of the Void expansion for StarCraft 2 which will focus on the Prostoss side of the campaign.
Even though the campaign team for Hearts of the Swarm has transitioned to development of Legacy of the Void, he said that few artists had shifted over to work on Blizzard All-Stars.
Bowler said that while he hopes that the lead time between Hearts of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void will be less than what gamers had to wait for between Wings of Liberty and Hearts of the Swarm, “efficient and quick game development is not something we have traditionally been great at. We will certainly do our best to reduce the time between expansions.”
Alan Dabiri, the lead software designer, also added that the team was trying its best to make sure that the Heart of the Swarm expansion does not face the same online server issues that plagues Diablo 3. “”We’ve learned a lot from our previous launches, including the Wings of Liberty launch, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure this launch goes as smoothly as possible. We have the advantage that we’ve been building on an existing platform that’s been evolving for several years.”
