The biggest news in gaming as of late, has easily been the SimCity fiasco that even rivals Diablo 3 in game launch fumbles. Like Diablo 3, SimCity tried to go the “always online” route, which we have consistently seen fail time and time again (just take a look at every popular Massive MMO launch, ever).
Apparently, the public out cry is so persistent, that Amazon has taken it upon themselves to not only display a large warning to customers about purchasing the game, but they also disabled the option to purchase the digital copy of the game. One has to only look at the Amazon reviews for SimCity, to realize just how angry people are about this. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many one stars in a row.
What I don’t understand, though, is why this is still happening. All the major developers have had this happen to them, and the money they think they’re making, by implementing DRM, is usually lost in refunds, or down the road business, when you’ve just alienated all of your customers.
