One edge that competitive games, especially MOBAs have over other genres is the continued and dedicated growth of the community. Dota 2 is one of the most successful in the genre, perhaps second only to League of Legends.
Naturally, with continued support from the ever growing community and the frequent updates, the game has surpassed The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and set a new record for the most concurrent active users. Dota 2 scored an overwhelming 297,010 users on the first day of March, while Skyrim’s record is of 287,411, which it set around the time it was launched.
The growth has also been graphed to show the trend and as expected Skyrim had an initial edge which it slowly lost over time while its counterpart, Dota 2, started out really humble but as more and more people began to join, it kept snowballing. The record has been set only recently so expect to see the game continue to grow.
