The developers behind Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 have announced that they are cancelling the game on Wii U because of budget issues.
Dave Cox from Konami recently spoke with Eurogamer about the unfortunate news that there would no longer be a Wii U version of the new Castlevania game.
According to Cox, the studio working on the PS3, 360 and PC versions of Lords of Shadow 2 would require an additional 20 staff members. MercurySteam are the developer working on the versions and it’s just not in the budget to hire on 20 extra members of staff for this project, nor do they have the space in their office. Cox elaborated somewhat on the subject:
Game development is about managing resources. You say to yourself, can I take on another 20 people? It’s just a nightmare to manage at this point. That’s the only reason why we’re not doing any other formats.
Also, the MercurySteam office is at breaking point right now. It’s rammed. They bought the office for 60 people, and there are 110 now. People are sitting on each other’s laps almost. It’s all these kind of logistical issues about the development.
It is a shame for avid fans of the series who were relying on a Wii U release to play the title, but the unfortunate truth is that Konami just can’t accommodate for the Wii U as they originally imagined.
