The recent rumours and leaks of a supposed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag turned out to be very, very true.
Reddit, Kotaku, the internet in general. Everywhere’s been abuzz with rumours of a new Assassin’s Creed title, tentatively called Black Flag. Whilst I was quite sceptical of the rumours, Ubisoft turned around to throw a suckerpunch into my sceptical face. After weeks of leaks all pointing towards the truth of the game, Ubisoft confirmed that there would indeed be a fourth Assassin’s Creed game coming out under the name of Assassins’ Creed IV: Black Flag.
Along with revealing the official artwork for the game that you can see below, Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin’s Creed IV would be coming to all current major platforms (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC) but didn’t hint at any next-generation consoles such as the PlayStation 4. They did however confirm that the PlayStation 3 would have at least 60 minutes of exclusive gameplay over the other versions.
Whilst they’re not dropping too many details until Monday, we did get to confirm some more of the rumours. The Assassin protagonist will indeed be Edward Kenway, father of Haytham Kenway and grandfather to Connor of Assassin’s Creed III. Taking place in 1715, this game will be all about pirates and the Caribbean (Please, no Jack Sparrow jokes…I’ve heard too many today). Edward Kenway is a notorious privateer as well as being a member of the Assassin Order. His black flag will fly with the symbol of the Assassins and a white skull, indicating the Order’s presence in the Caribbean at that time.
Other than knowing that it’ll be out sometime in this fiscal year (Which ends March 2014), we don’t know much else yet. However, Ubisoft will be revealing more details this coming Monday, so expect more news then.
