In the 43rd producer’s letter, Naoki Yoshida announced the beta for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will go live, at least in its first phase, on February 25th.
The beta is running a bit behind schedule, but will release on the 25th outside of any cataclysmic bugs that shut the whole thing down. Yoshida openly admitted in his letter that testing is behind one week.
He stated, however, that the extra time is a good thing because it means there will be more system features and character options included in the first beta. The random public quest-type Full Active Time Events (FATE), for instance. There’s also the new guildhest, earlier known as behest, system.
The beta invitations are out now, and users can apply for there’s on the official site.
