Valve Responds To Layoffs
Only yesterday we reported about the major layoffs that hit Valve. As much as 25 people have been fired during the course of only one day.
This led to a mass suspicion that some Valve projects may have been canned too. However, Gabe Newell while speaking to engadget assured us that everything was moving ahead as planned and nothing had been cancelled or terminated:
We don’t usually talk about personnel matters for a number of reasons. There seems to be an unusual amount of speculation about some recent changes here, so I thought I’d take the unusual step of addressing them. No, we aren’t cancelling any projects.
No, we aren’t changing any priorities or projects we’ve been discussing. No, this isn’t about Steam or Linux or hardware or [insert game name here]. We’re not going to discuss why anyone in particular is or isn’t working here
Among the employees that Valve fired, most prominent ones were hardware developer Jeri Ellsworth and business director Jason Holtman. Notably, Ellsworth was said to have been working on next-gen gaming hardware for Valve.
