Everyone’s heard of Left 4 Dead and its sequel, Left 4 Dead 2, one of the most popular zombie shooters that are currently in the market. Well now it seems that Valve has moved the Left 4 Dead 2 Expanded Mutation System into beta testing.
Here’s what that mean in case you’re in the dark. Up until now, most modders have been working with something called the L4D2 Mutation system which allows users to make small tweaks to existing game modes to create more varied and original gameplay. Unfortunately, this existing system is a bit limited.
So Valve have given us the new one (EMS) which allows mod authors deeper customization and the ability to create more unique versions of maps in the game.
You still can’t create new characters, but you can have greater control over existing elements. To showcase this, Valve released a new map called Holdout that teaches players to utilize the new system. You can find out more details about the system on the Wikipedia page here.
We don’t have a deadline or release date, but the new Left 4 Dead 2 Expanded Mutation System will be rolled out into the main game soon.
