Aliens: Colonial Marines Was Doomed from the Start, Claims ex-Gearbox Dev – Rumor
Aliens: Colonial Marines’ release today was accompanied by a train of poor review scores. The hopes of many Marines were riding on this game and it’s disappointing to see the final result from Gearbox. There is no way the web is going to let off Gearbox so easily.
In the wake, a statement from an ex-Gearbox employee has come out stating that Gearbox seemingly outsourced their game to TimeGate Studios and that a major part of the game was actually developed by the Section 8 guys.
Superannuation has uncovered some forum posts by what appears to be an ex-Gearbox Software developer. There is no confirmation on this though so just take it as a rumor. The following was posted in May of last year.
Hate to say it, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up too high for Colonial Marines. I used to work at Gearbox, and the development of that game has been a total train wreck, going on what, 6 years now?
Gearbox isn’t even making the game, except for the multiplayer. Primary development was outsourced to TimeGate Studios, which has a less than stellar past. I hope it proves me wrong, as I still have alot of friends still working at Gearbox, but I am expecting it to be average at best.
The part of Gearbox only developing the multiplayer is kind of bizarre. I’ve never heard of any A grade studio outsourcing the entire campaign to another studio.
