World of Warcraft Still The Largest Subscription-Based MMO with 9.6 Million Players

By   /   Feb 8, 2013

Subscription numbers for World of Warcraft during the fourth quarter of 2012 are in, and WoW is still the largest subscription-based MMO.

This isn’t to say that the numbers haven’t dwindled a bit, as WoW is at 9.6 million, down from the 10 million seen during the launch of Mists of Pandaria. At its lowest, however, WoW saw a subscribers measuring just 9.1 million before Mists of Pandaria hit the market.

The numbers, keep in mind, are for the fourth quarter, ending December 31, 2012, and may be higher now considering holiday purchases. Only time will tell when Activision releases the numbers for the first quarter of 2013.

While WoW is captivating the subscriber market, Activision Blizzard’s Diablo III is currently the #1 best selling PC game, with Mists of Pandaria trailing at #3.
