As reliably as the ticking hands of a clock, Activision has announced that there will be a new Call of Duty game coming this year, in late 2013 in case you don’t know what year it is. It was mentioned during an investor call earlier today; however, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg also said that they don’t expect it to do as well as Black Ops 2.
For Call of Duty, consistent with our past practices, we are planning for the mainline release in Q4 to be down versus 2012
According the CEO Bobby Kotick, 2012 was the best year in Activision’s history, and Black Ops 2 was a major player in accomplishing that. The company has already said that they don’t expect to do as well in 2013 due to a challenged global economy and the changing console generation.
For 2013 on the Activision Publishing side, there is increased volatility this year due to the ongoing console transition, which makes predicting the future more challenging than in normal years in the cycle
Back to the new Call of Duty, it’s very likely that Treyarch will be tagging out with Infinity Ward who will probably be giving us another entry into the Modern Warfare series for this one.
