After the collapse of THQ, most of the Vigil studio employees were hired by Crytek, the makers of Crysis series. This led to the common notion that Crytek would be making installments to Vigil studio’s popular franchise, Darksiders.
However, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has put that rumor to bed. Instead of making Vigil work on Darksiders 3, Crytek has decided to make a new US based studio branch, which will be called Crytek US.
The studio will work out of Austin, Texas and will be headed by former Vigil head David Adams. The rest of the staff will mostly consist of ex-Vigil employees too.
Regarding this acquisition, Yerli had this to say:
We had chosen Austin as the destination for [our U.S. branch], and we needed a lean and core team of experts to run the studio. At the same time, we didn’t want to continue with Darksiders 3, since that doesn’t fit with our strategy. So when I heard that [THQ laid off everyone at Vigil], I decided on Saturday morning to fly out to meet with them to see if the team would be interested to join our mission, which is significantly different than what this team has done before.
By his statement, it’s clear that this new Crytek US studio won’t be working on Darksiders 3. Unfortunately, we don’t know for sure that what exactly this studio will be working on. We hope to find out as soon as possible and also wish them the best of luck for their future.
