In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Telltale games CEO Dan Connors reveals that their award winning, critically acclaimed video game has sold of 8.5 million episodes to date.
Priced at $5 an episode, and with 5 episodes launched so far, that’s about $40,000,000 in revenue generated since April last year. Apparently a quarter of the sales were for the iOS.
To date, it’s sold 8.5 million episodes and it’s been in the marketplace for seven months. November and December were our biggest months. It was the culmination of the product, the game of the year awards, the retail push, and it still has a ton of head room in it Apple has featured us a bunch of times for each of the episodes, and it’s in Apple’s Hall of Fame (for iPhone and iPad apps).
Dan attributes the success of the game series to their policy of treating the franchise as a service to the franchise instead of as a cash cow.
