A new year has started and there’s still no sign of the standalone version of DayZ. A new post on the developer’s blog explains why DayZ’s standalone version missed out on its 2012 release date.
Put simply, DayZ Standalone isn’t here because we had the chance to go from making a game that was just the mod improved slightly, packaged simply, and sold – to actually redeveloping the engine and making the game the way we all dreamed it could be. This blew any initial plans we had dictated to pieces.
So what new changes are we talking here? Well the inventory system is getting an overhaul, there’s a new scavenging mechanic, changes to the UI and new art is being brought in.
A closed beta is scheduled soon to allow players to test out the game’s new architecture.
