Reports came online today detailing a new strategy Microsoft may have in the works to extend the life cycle of consoles even further. According to the reports, Microsoft is developing a set-top box that will use core components of Windows 8 to offer a casual gaming experience. Microsoft has also allegedly looked into teaming with certain television manufacturers to bring these services to a licensed Xbox television.
The set-top box will function as an alternative to the next-generation Xbox console, offering a more casual gaming component mixed with more passive entertainment options. This will apparently be part of a “two-SKU strategy” for the next-generation of Xbox hardware in 2013.
