The creators behind the multi-platform Unity engine, Unity Technologies, have released the new version of their Unity engine called Unity 4. The beta is available to the masses, and you can join in on the action here.
Now that Unity technologies have acquired animation tools company Mecanim, they have added character animation system in this version of the engine. Furthermore, this version adds linux and flash exports, a new character animation system, and DirectX 11 rendering.
Unity has promised that the version 4.0 engine will make it possible for small-scale indie studio to produce AAA titles. This has been done by boosting the visual fidelity made possible by the platform’s new features (e.g. real-time shadows on mobile) and optimizations.
