Sony Annual Sales Forecast Lowers Vita Expectations… Again

Sony’s second quarter financial results reveal that the firm has once again lowered its annual sales forecast for their PS Vita.

Sony now expects to sell around 10 million units by March 31, 2013. This figure was initially 16 million units back in May of this year but was reduced to 12 million units in August.

The forecast for their PS3 console sales remains as it is, 16 million units by March 31, 2013.

More bad news piles up for Sony as their game division reported a sales decrease of 16% year-on-year to $1.85 billion.

According to the company “This decrease was primarily due to lower sales of hardware and software of the PlayStation 3 and PSP, partially offset by the contribution of the PlayStation Vita introduced in December 2011.”

The second quarter saw Sony selling a total of 3.5 million PS3 and PS2 units combined. This is a huge slump when compared to last year where they sold a total of 4.9 million units combined.

Overall Sony has managed to reduce their net loss from 27 billion yen to 15.5 billion yen ($19 million).
