Skylanders has already played a mighty role in growing Activision’s revenue stream. Linked with actual physical collectibles that game brought a new relation between video games and toys. With the console platform in the bag, the firm decided to move on to mobile.
Skylanders: Cloud Patrol was released earlier this year and has been downloaded over 1.5 million times since it’s release. However, Activision was not too happy with the results and said that the game needed the same physical link to the collectibles as that of the consoles.
Hence, Activision plans to release Skylanders: Battlegrounds next month which will provide the same ability to beam in Skylanders characters using a new Bluetooth-powered portal.
The game will be exclusive to iOS and will be priced between $5 and $7 in the download store. The starter package will be priced at $49.99 and will include a download code for the game, three figures, the Bluetooth portal and a Platinum Treasure Chest containing digital items and consumables.
You do not really require to pay more for the portal and collectible characters. In game you can randomly pick a new character using the in-game currency. Off course with a portal you can inject any character you like on the fly.
Vicarious Visions, the developers for the mobile versions of the game revealed that they plan to include portal support for Cloud Patrol as well. Additionally there’s a third game on the list called Skylanders: Lost Islands which will be released next month as well.
