Team Fortress 2 will soon receive support for the linux platform, as discovered by a Slashdot user. The user found some “linux related files” which were sneaked in during a recent hush-hush update.
Among the modified files are some Linux-related files including a hardware driver compatibility list, optimal graphics settings, and a shell script launcher (previously only for OS X, now with a case for Linux as well).
Valve has yet to acknowledge the findings but they did admit to the update in a forum post.
The news comes shortly after Valve’s announcement of Steam heading for Linux private beta which will go live later this month. One would assume that the company is shifting it’s interest to ‘other’ platforms following Gabe Newell’s notion of Windows 8 being a “catastrophe”.
