Brenda Braithwaite and Tom Hall’s Shaker: An Old-School RPG was terminated two weeks and a quarter of a million dollars in, via their kickstarter page.
Ultimately, our pitch just wasn’t strong enough to get the traction we felt it needed to thrive,” the update reveals. “Sure, it may have made it. We could have fought our way to a possibly successful end. In reading your feedback and talking it over internally, however, we decided that it made more sense to kill it and come back with something stronger.
Initially known as Old-School RPG, the project eventually gained the name, Shaker. Planned to be just that, an old-school rpg, Shaker was intended to be a massive nastalgia trip, helmed by the legacy of Wizardry designer Brenda Braithwaite and id/Ion Storm co-founder Tom Hall.
Ultimately, it seems as if cancelling this kickstarter project was for the best. The developers wanted a million dollars before they even really knew what the game was going to be.
If you’re worried about all the people that helped fund the game, fret not; kickstarter programs only withdrawal cash when a project is succesfully funded. As a result, none of Shaker’s backers lost any money.
